Description:
Alert Baku sitting in a Moon Flower with leaves and vines entwining in back and at
the base. Base has inner carving of a tiny gremlin-like face (suggesting a
nightmare). Base has carved inclusion of " rock."
Color:
Plum-color Moon Flower back, natural boxwood flower front; red/orange flames;
grey, rose-grey, pink Baku; green, natural vines.
Story:
This Baku is hunting nightmares by perching partially hidden in the
night-blooming Moon Flower. Baku's legendary flames emanate from behind him.
Tiny holes are burning into the Moon Flower.
Here, it is imagined that night, and hunting, will end when
the magical flames have burned the flower completely, and the Baku will retire to his
daytime resting spot in the daylilies. If the Baku finds no bad dreams to eat, he
can snack on the rock, (which legend holds to be it's other favorite food) hidden in the
vines and roots of the Moon Flower. Perhaps, then, the Baku will find the little
nightmare hiding behind the rock.
Note 1: The " rock" is an
inclusion carved from, and within, the base of the sculpture.
Note
2: The Gremlin can be viewed by placing the piece in strong light, and
looking "beyond" the rock to see the glowing red eyes and tiny face. |
