Valerie Anne Barber ...Placing Beauty in Your Hand
"Dark of the Moon" by Valerie Anne Barber

Description:   Dark Moon on one side with crescent Moon border, mammoth ivory Rabbit sleeping in horsetail grasses on reverse.  Moon Flower vine (Ipomoea alba) encircling piece.

Theme: Derived from the Japanese legend of " The Rabbit and the Moon."   Here the Artist's creative interpretation shows Rabbit blissfully napping, having fallen asleep while gathering horsetail grass (equisetum), with which legend says he cleans the Moon;   thus the Moon on the reverse side remains dark.

The Moon Flower, shaped like trumpets, exhort a reveille to wake the Rabbit and inspire the moon to shine.
